What makes a good CS2 highlight clip
A good CS2 highlight is short and starts just before the action: a few seconds of setup, the kills, a beat after. The plays that land are the ones people get instantly: aces, clutches, multi-kills, and kills with style like wallbangs, noscopes or kills through smoke. To find yours fast, killcam.gg ranks every round you got a kill in, best first.
01What's worth clipping
Bigger beats smaller, and style breaks ties. killcam.gg treats every round where you got a kill as one play and ranks plays by kill count, aces, clutch size and style. It's a decent rule of thumb for picking clips by hand too.
- Ace: you killed every enemy. The obvious one.
- Clutch: you won a 1vN as the last one alive. A 1v4 tells a better story than a 1v1, even with fewer kills on screen than an ace.
- Multi-kill: two or more kills in the round. A fast 3K or 4K reads well even without context.
- Style: headshots, wallbangs, noscopes, kills through smoke, kills while flashed, mid-air kills, knife kills, and kills close together. A single wallbang through smoke can beat a slow, spread-out 3K.
What usually doesn't work: a round where the kills are half a minute apart with nothing in between, or a kill that only makes sense if you know the economy and the score. If you have to explain it, it's probably not the clip.
02How long a CS2 clip should be
As short as the play allows. Viewers need just enough setup to see where you are, then the kills, then a moment to land the last one. Everything else is scroll time.
killcam.gg cuts every clip the same way: it starts 4 s before your first kill of the play and ends 2 s after the last. Stretches of 5 s or more where nothing happens are cut down, so a slow clutch still plays tight. YouTube counts vertical videos up to 3 minutes as Shorts, but a single highlight never needs anything close to that.
Cutting by hand? Use the same idea: trim the walk to the site, keep the peek, and don't leave dead air between kills.
03How to find your best plays in a match
The manual way. Download the demo from Watch → Your Matches, play it, and open demoui (Shift+F2) to step through rounds. Spectate yourself with spec_player and speed through quiet rounds with demo_timescale. When you hit something good, demo_marktick saves the spot and demo_gotomark takes you back.
demoui
spec_player yourname
demo_timescale 4
demo_marktick
demo_gotomarkIt works, but it means scrubbing through a whole match to find a handful of rounds. For aces and clutches specifically, see how to find an ace in a CS2 demo.
The killcam.gg way. Link your match history once and every match gets read for you. The match page lists Your kills, best first, one row per round with a badge (ACE, 1vN, 4K) and the round number. The Clips page filters by Ace, Clutch, Multi-kill or Kill and sorts by best play across all your matches. Free clips your top play from every match automatically; Pro clips your top 3 and lets you pick any other kill and hit Clip it.
04Make it look clean
- Lose the clutter. In a demo,
cl_draw_only_deathnotices 1hides the HUD except the crosshair and kill feed.cl_drawhud 0needssv_cheats 1. - Plan for vertical. A centre crop of a 16:9 recording cuts off HUD near the edges. killcam.gg's 9:16 comes from a HUD-free capture with the kill feed laid out again for the vertical frame. More in clean 9:16 clips.
- Keep the game audio. The shots and the kill sounds carry a frag clip. killcam.gg clips use game audio only, no music.
- Show another angle. Seeing your kill from the enemy's side sells it. Here's how to watch from their POV, or use the Reverse angle director on Pro, which shows the main clip and then each killed enemy's own POV.
